The Husband Project

Katrina_Wylie

Hey, OBSers! Nichole Stern with you again today as we prepare to kick off 21 days of intentionally blessing our husbands through the #TheHusbandProject! We are so glad you’re joining us for this study, and we can’t wait to see what God has in store!

In last week’s blog, I shared how I pridefully thought this study would be a piece of cake. But as God worked in my heart, I was challenged to get back to the basics of loving my man. For me, this meant going back to a precious nugget of wisdom our pastor shared with us in premarital counseling:

“Love is serving, not being served.”

As I reflected on these words, they ignited a fire in me to date my husband again. I knew these words would spur me on through this project, so I wrote them in my THP journal … not just once, but several times.

I don’t know about y’all, but sometimes I need more than one reminder.

Another way to solidify our commitment to serving our husbands is by looking to God’s Word. Jesus gives us a beautiful example in Matthew 20:28 (NIV):

“… just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Truth is, I sometimes struggle with modeling Jesus’ example of service in my marriage.

Serving someone every day, plus “til death do us part?” EEEKKK!!

Some days we can barely hold ourselves together, let alone minister to someone else.

And what about those times we serve our husbands and it doesn’t seem to make a difference? Ugh! That can tempt us to give up on ourselves, our husbands and our marriages.

How about this~ Let’s not believe the lie that our intentional steps of obedience to love and honor our husbands don’t matter. They matter to God. And because they matter to God, shouldn’t they matter to us too? Even when no one else notices?

I love how our verse of the week prepares us to begin this journey by thinking less of ourselves and more of others.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3 (NIV 84)

As we continue this week to prepare for our personal husband projects, let’s put these words into practice and humbly present ourselves before the Lord, giving our best to Him, our husbands, and our marriages.
